On the eleventh of November, many schools from around the world have special assembly's. Why? Because this day is very important. This day is called Remembrance day.
Remembrance Day is a day when we all remember the soldiers that sacrifaced their lives to protect our country. We only ask for everyone to take 2 minutes. Just 2 minutes to stop what their doing and think about the soldiers that risked their lives to keep our country free. We all wear a red poppy on the left side of our chests as a sign of respect to the soldiers.
You may think why should I even care about those soldiers? Well, those soldiers risked their lives to keep our country safe and free and many of those soldiers even died. Those soldiers had to leave their familys, kids, and loved ones to go to war and they knew they might not see them again. But many of those brave soldiers fought for the country and did their part as a proud Canadian. They served our country and we respect them for this and we will never forget about them.
In many schools, Remembrance Day assemblys are very quiet. There might be performances when students woudl read poems, sing a song (that is appropriate), and maybe play the piano. There can be many things that people do in Remembrance Day as long as its appropriate. Every time someone is done performing, there is no clapping aloud. Usually there would be a moment of silence around 11:00 am. During this moment of silence, everyone bows their head and we remember those people that sacrifaced their lives to keep our country safe and free.
You can't really say if it's worth it for the soldiers dieing, but because they fought in the war, our country is free. But of course if the soldiers didn't have to die then that would have been better but because they wanted our country to be safe, they fought in the war and some soldiers died to protect our country. The fact that the soldiers sacrifaced their lives so that our country would be free is very touching. I saw some of the pictures from the battle of Vimy Ridge and there was a picture of 4 soldiers that were carrying a soldier that died. That was a really sad picture. Imagine how his family would take the news that he died at war. It's really sad. No one wants to hear that their son died at war and that they will never see him again.
Remembrance Day is on November the eleventh because World War 1 ended on this day.
